My dog Cyrus is a Wolf/Malamute and has destroyed many things in his three years of life. When he was a puppy he chewed furniture, stole food off plates, broke three collars while he was hooked up to a tree, broke four chains while he was hooked up to a tree, was accused of eating the neighbors donkey (though the source was biased) and has been known to hunt muskrat and play with it before he eats it.... He has dug trenches in my backyard, pulled off the siding from the house, chewed window trim, ripped the baseboard off the wall, chewed half his doghouse apart, torn the heated dogdish off the wall and finished it off by removing the cord and plug, chewed on the deck, pool table, trees, etc. He clearcut half my dad's backyard.
Cyrus also has selective hearing. When we take him to the dog park he rarely listens to us and we can only leave when HE is ready. He's very sociable with other dogs and never picks a fight. For some reason however, Golden Retrievers tend to not be fond of him.
When Cyrus is inside the house he listens no better. He sleeps on top of the pool table. He refuses to lay down and hang out but rather has to wander and sniff and play with the cat or other dog. He also uses the basement as his washroom on occasion. If he happens to get out the front door he does not come back easily. We've had to chase him down the road in our Jeep through midday traffic to get him back.
Both my dogs are very vocal, Cyrus less so than the other but Cyrus's voice is very loud and intimidating in comparison and people get frightened. When people come to the door or strangers are outside HIS backyard he tends to bark very loudly and persistantly.
Cyrus is a free spirit and I wouldn't trade him for the world. He's just a little naughty.
