ANNIE (Our "Marley" in the middle)!

Submitted by: Wendy Fletcher

Yes, she is the one in the middle of our three dogs, and is probably in Marly's Pedigree somewhere.

She is also the "middle child" and displays such characteristics. However, we love her to death, and we know that if she were in any other household, she would not be living right now.

Last week, our three labs went to grandpas for their vacation. My father thinks he is THE greatest dog trainer as he watches the "Dog Whisper" which must qualify him. When I picked them up last week, my father said “The other two dogs are now trained, but Annie is hopeless!” I just had to laugh.

Here is a TYPICAL Annie day.

6:30 am - She can be heard walking into the bathroom taking all tissue paper, Q-tips and other such items from the bathroom garbage can. Her claws give her away.
6:43 am - She starts to moan to let us know that the alarm clock is about to go off.
6:45 am - Owner (me) moves ever so slightly and Annie is on the bed... then off the bed... then on the bed... then off the bed.
6:46 am - Owner (me) has no choice but to arise. I open the door to my room and Annie BOLTS down the hallway... always in front of the other dogs.
6:50 am - Breakfast is served... Annie stands there, whistling, growling, and howling till she get's her feed. She is ALWAYS the first one done and always the first one at the back door to head out.
6:53 am - I barely touch the handle on the screen door... Annie is already halfway out the door, runs around the backyard, digging under our deck looking for any sign of movement from our Rabbit families. Finally a rabbit pops out, runs under the fence to safety. Annie has succumbed to defeat, yet once again.
6:54 am - It only took her one minute to run around the back yard three times, dig a few holes, chase a rabbit, do her business and run back to the door to BARK and, BARK and BARK to be let in only to....
6:55 am - CLEAN THE ENTIRE KITCHEN FLOOR!!!!! This takes her at least 10 minutes! She licks, and licks and licks it clean - if only I could get my husband to do this!
7:00 am – She drinks the entire bowl of water, leaves some on the floor, and promptly cleans the ears of the other two dogs.
8:00 am - 4:30 pm - Dogs are in their bedroom (my bedroom) for the day.
4:31 pm – We greet our lovely family members, only to have Annie jump all over us, run through the kitchen to the back door, to the kitchen again… she can’t decide what’s more important, the rabbit’s outside, or the food in her bowl!
4:35 pm - The meal routine happens ALL OVER AGAIN... she inhales her food, chases rabbits, craps, barks at the door, and then cleans the kitchen floor.
5:00 pm – Dinner is prepped for the humans and Annie stands in the kitchen, at my feet, begging for more!
5:30 pm - Leisure time includes but sniffing, licking, rolling on her back and showing us her private parts, bolting through the screen door on the front of the house just to run across the street and narrowly avoid getting hit by a car just to but sniff another dog etc.
6:00 pm – Rare dog walk occurs. Annie, as always, want’s to take control, so she bites the collar of the other two dogs, trying to walk them, or better yet – takes it off!
9:00 pm – Annie assumes her evening position ON ANY HUMAN that will tolerate her!
10:00 pm – At the end of a TV show or hockey game, the remote clicks the TV off and this is Annies cue to BOLT (remember… she is ON one of us) upstairs EVERY TIME for her snack, taking out any human being or canine in her way! I follow her up, counting one more bruise or scrape on my body because she just propelled off of ME on her way up the stairs. She is truly an insane dog.
10:30 pm - Bedtime - Finally, peace and quiet…. or is that Annie breathing loud again!

She is truly a special dog. She has had three major knee operations in Guelph to repair two torn ligaments, and has undergone extensive testing for allergies for which we have to give her allergy shots every 10 days because, to make a very long story short, she is basically ALLERGIC TO HUMANS!!! She is a lucky dog to be with us… and we are lucky to have her!

We love our dogs, but we feel so guilty because we cannot enjoy them as much as we would like and our hopeless little ANNIE GIRL’S is a big part of this. We cannot go for dog walks because she is brutal on the leash... and if we take the other two for a walk and leave her behind, she would tear our house to pieces, so no one gets to go for a walk.

Well, that's Annie's (Our) Story.
