Meet Emma, Canada's naughtiest dog. The writing was on the wall at 3 months, our cute rescued Border Collie cross bit me for touching her treat. Emma has challenged our family and neighbours ever since. She thinks she is the boss of our house, inside and out. She objects to people coming and going past the house, even if they are in their own yards. Consequently, Emma barks at and attacks all windows, doors and even the backyard fence. To this end, we guard all the openings with baby gates (she does not like these) and tie her in the fenced yard so she can't get to the property fence. Emma also guards her food, treats and occasionally the garbage can, then bites any hand that comes too close. Her history of biting (me and 5 family members) has everyone keeping a close eye on her and no one wanting to get too close. She has destroyed stuffies, barbies, water bottles, pop cans, the kids pool, a sun shade, water guns, 3 dog beds, the storm door and most recently our lattice fence. Save our family. Vote Hope, Vote Help, Vote Emma the Princess Puppy of Evil

Hey Pam, your Emma looks just like our Bandit. He is a heeler/border collie cross, but he is all heeler!!! Sounds like your Emma is too. My 2 cents is to look up info on heelers. We found that very enlightening. Explains alot of their behaviour. They are very smart dogs and will constantly test boundries even when they know better. You have to keep on them all the time and let them know who is boss. Very hard to do when you don't want to sound like a meanie all the time I know! Luckily for us Bandit has cows to herd, ( deer and antelope as well) so that keeps him busy. We are working on the growling over food, his bed and a chair that he has claimed. Good luck with Emma!!!!

Poor Emma just can't catch a break. We took our first vacation since getting her and put her in a kennel for the first time. They have asked us not to bring her back. They could not catch her in the yard run and then she was trying to bite them. As if we needed anything else to add to her issues?! Thanks to all our friends who voted for Emma, here's hoping she/we get help!

My Boxer is exactly like your Emma when it comes to being in the yard. My neighbours absolutely hate her because she yells at them whenever she sees them. I've recently found out that she keeps waking the kids up next door :(
I aswell have to tie mine up in the backyard or she will dig her way out.
Hopefully my entry will be showing up on this site soon...just waiting for approval!!
Wish you the best of luck with Emma.

There is a lot of information not included in our posting because of space. We run her as often as allowed on a bike (and she runs like mad), however she has a club foot which gets sore from too much exercise and thick pads which split often. Regardless of how much exercise she seems to get her yard behaviour does not change....her inside behaviour does get better if no people are outside. She is very territorial and a resource guarder....difficult problems for any breed.

I don't want to come off a rude and this is simply a tip; but this is normally why border collies end up at pounds alot...they require alot of attention but most importantly ALOT of exercise...as soon as they get bored they will develop these bad obsessive tendencies which can vary from obsessing with shadows, objects, ripping the stuffing out of things, or fences, or getting really aggressive...I've owned border collies all my life and unfortunately if they do not get enough exercise (which, I'm dead serious has to be alot and alot of running) and mental stimulation as well as a healthy dose of discipline and a job to do, they will run amok...they are afterall bred for one purpose and one purpose only: to herd. And when they don't get to do something similar they lose it...So, not sure if you are already doing it or not, but if not I'd suggest you run that pup like she never ran before (of course making sure not to over exert her in the heat and provide tons of water). Once she's been tired out (sort of since they hop back up within 10 mins lol) go ahead and try some mental stimulation like tricks and/or discipline if the case requires it.
and yes, even border collie mixes can be obsessive compulsive :P
